OnionSTAT

What is OnionSTAT?

OnionSTAT is an online information collection and management system that has been customized for the Australian onion industry. In the future it will hold a broad range of information to assist industry participants in their business operations. At this time, the focus of OnionSTAT is on the collection of monthly planting, forecast and production data from grower/ packers in the major production regions.

Grower/ packers are requested to enter their data into the form on the back of this letter. This data will then be aggregated and a monthly industry report showing the plantings, forecasts and production and types of onions is produced for use by those that are contributing. It is important to have as many grower/ packers contributing data as possible so that the figures reflect what is happening in the market as accurately as possible.

Joining & Contributing

Over many years the onion industry and its members/levy payers have been attempting to collect accurate statistic.

In the past we have had a fax system which has worked but not as accurate as it could be. In September 2008 we launched an internet based system called OnionSTAT. This has made entering data easier. Growers have found remembering to enter their data increasingly difficult so after much discussion around the country we recently have decided to almalgamate both systems.

We now remind all contributors via email first, then via fax. Either the executive officer Joanne Thomas-Ward or the Project Assistant, Lechelle Earl then ring contributors who have not submitted their figures.

Collated reports are distributed to contributors only on or around the 15th of each month.
